Dance Workshops With Jaycee Gossett
Join dance documentarian and former host of the Travel Channel’s Dance the World, Jaycee Gossett for a 10-day dance immersion workshop in the Philippines.
Jaycee has spent her life discovering what differentiates cultures through dance. Her work has taken her across six continents to connect with the heart of the people through movement. Join her in the Philippines, where through modern and tradition techniques, she'll introduce you to this vibrant culture.
Begin in Manila where you’ll explore b-boys poses, bamboo-skipping tinikling, and new movements fused with old. Jaycee believes every country has a dance, and every dance has a story, and at this point in the journey, you’ll connect to the Filipino story. Learn the layered history of this country, discovering how Spanish, British, and American colonists influenced the evolution of local steps.
In order to fully understand the trends of today, one must go back to the roots. Gossett will lead you from the bright lights of the city to the tribes of the south. Away from the bustling streets of Manila, the pace slows down. Here break dancing is replaced with tribal; light-hearted hopscotch moves of tinikling are exchanged with battle inspired movements born out of years of war with foreign invaders. Learning these steps will deeper connect you with the land, the people, and the story of the Philippines.
Finally, you’ll have a chance to explore the pristine, white sand beaches, where you’ll learn patterns inspired by island life and it’s beautiful, crystal clear waters. With nature surrounding you, the group dance will be magnified by the sounds, smells, and colors of the beaches.
Our 10-day dance retreat will culminate in an all out dance party with our guides, new dance friends, and teachers celebrating the connective experience.
